Basic Rights Denied At J.F.K. Airport

I was recently stopped by Homeland Security as I was returning from a trip to Syria. What I saw in the hours that followed shocked and disturbed me. (story)

Why does this surprise people? This is what America voted for.

America didn't vote for this. Our leaders (a very few compare to the number of the general population) voted for this without giving the public a change to voice their opinion. Homeland security was established regardless of what the public said and their policies were written by scared, incompetent men.
If we are to change this, we have to fill out those stupid forms, write our leaders, get the truth to the public. Otherwise, things will continue in this fashion. And nobody wants that now.

You sir just realized the flaw in our representative democracy, welcome to reality. Soon enough after writing our leaders you will realize they don't have the time to actually read your concern and you will receive a response declaring how they are grateful you care about ::insert issue:: but to otherwise fuck off and have a nice day.

      no.

you (plural) fucking voted for this shit. end of story, don't blame congress, don't blame the president, don't blame the cabinet, the only one who you should blame is yourselves and no one else. you have the right to choose what the country does and what it does not, that is why you have representatives, you have to take action and pressure them because in the end this country was made to be run by the people...something that is slowly sipping away because you do not take action, you just let the government babysit your ass, make decisions for you, and think for you, you sound like a meat bag on a pedestal with a higher power taking advantage of you and making the thinking for you.

Excuse me, but bull-shit. America did vote for these louts and they did so because they were scared. I heard Americans stand up in public meetings right after 9/11 and, one after another, offer to sacrifice their privacy and civil rights in the name of security. One lady was even bawling, asking who was going to protect her. Disgusting.

Yes, America, even after three years of incompetent management, you had a chance to choose between a genuine war hero and a drunken frat boy from Connecticut pretending to be a religious fighter pilot from Texas, and you picked the fraud because you thought they were tougher on terrorism. Decisions motivated by a combination of fear and bad judgment.

I have a hard time deciding what's more disgusting: Trading freedom for security, or not admitting you made a mistake voting Republican. At least have the nads to admit you made a mistake. And don't give me any of that cry baby crap about not liking the Democrats any better. The Democrats could not possibly have made things worse than they are now and at least you could say you tried even if they did. Gutless hypocrites and intellectual frauds all of you right wings buttheads.

DangerCollier are you really claiming that the same party the created Japanese and German internment camps couldn't have done worse? It's not like the Democrats tried to stop the Patriot act either. Why didn't they try to filibuster the bill in the Senate? Democrats are no better or worse then Republicans.

      @Owden

McCain? He's lock-goose-step with the same utterly failed policies that led to the indignities suffered by the author of the article. You're so busy crowing about "socialism" that you're going to let yourself be duped to vote against your own interests, and the interests of the country and its people, once again, and you're going to get exactly what you deserve.

OwdenBowden you SERIOUSLY need to pull your head out of your ass and do some research. The lesser of two evils? REALLY? You can't be serious... PLEASE tell me your trolling.

It seriously scares me when people talk like you do...

Nobody here is sure their vote counted because, chances are, it all happened on a CPU, running proprietary code.
Very, very few people are awake and care about this country anymore.

Did you watch the Olympics last night?

SugarCoatedSalt - Fuck you. What country are you from? Then let me blame you for any ineptitude shown by your leaders. I'm getting pretty damn tired of people on Digg saying it is all US citizens' fault that we have crappy leadership. If that is the case then by extension, other countries' leaders are responsible for not taking action against the US. If other countries' leaders are responsible then, by your logic, all of the citizens of those countries are responsible. If everyone in the world is responsible then nobody is responsible. Guess what? There are some people who are responsible and I believe they should pay. Stop giving them a free pass. So blow it out your ass.

The sad thing is people haven't learned at all from these past 7 or so years... it seems like plenty of people are willing to vote for McCain so we can continue this great direction we are heading in... Fucking sick. This is the problem with representative democracy... a bunch of idiots can pretty much ruin things for everyone. After 2 terms of Bush if you are are even remotely considering to vote for McCain you should be deported for hating America and the Constitution.

Well the US is doomed at this point in the same way Europe was doomed after ww2. During ww2, all the smart people got the fuck out and came to the us and most their factories had been destroyed. It took Europe nearly 50 years to recover. Now all the smart people have gotten the fuck out of the US and our economy is such shit that we can't currently produce anything to rejuvenate it.

To be fair, it's not really the US government that did it, it's really the illuminati who chose to enact it, we're just following protocol, like every other nation on this planet.

But do you see the Democrats offering any effective means to change this?

The entire system is like this, don't point the blame towards all Republicans

You're almost stupid enough to make Bush's cabinet.
